Winter Snow – Creative Ways to Teach STEAM

EECO Winter CONFERENCE January 29 & 30, 2027

The “Winter Snow CONFERENCE,” will be held at the fabulous Nuhop Hemlock Campus

located at: 5370 Bunkerhill North Rd, Butler, OH 44822

Lodging at Camp Nuhop is included with Full Conference Registration. The accommodations are bunk rooms. If you need a private room, you can reserve a room at Mohican State Park Lodge which is over the hill from Camp Nuhop or a local Airbnb. Lodging at Mohican or in Airbnb's are not included in conference registration.

College Credit and Contact Hour Certificates are available for CEUs

Facilitator Training

for Project Learning Tree!

Please note that if you sign up for the facilitator training that particular part of the conference starts on Friday, January 29th at 12:00 pm. and ends on Saturday, January 30th at 4 pm.

The agenda for the Project Learning Tree Facilitator Training will be available soon.

Presentation topics are diverse and if possible, relate to winter, but will relate to one of the following: STEM, Arts, Environmental Literacy, 21st Century Skills or Careers and the Environment. We encourage sessions to include ways of getting students reconnected to nature, interested in Environmental Careers, or that use the outdoors as a teaching tool.

Friday entertainment and learning event: Dance with Nature: Boots and Roots. Where Line Dancing Meets Environmental Education.

Saturday Lunch Keynote: Jill Bartolotta, Education Specialist for Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory of The Ohio State University.

Jill Bartolotta is the Education Specialist for Ohio Sea Grant and The Ohio State University Stone Laboratory. She leads, develops, coordinates, promotes, and evaluates education and outreach initiatives. Her programs focus on Lake Erie issues of concern, coastal stewardship, environmental literacy, and workforce development. She previously served as the Emerging Contaminants Specialist and Extension Educator for the program where she focused on the issue of plastic pollution in the Great Lakes. Her research and education tools have been used to inform plastics policy and international research and education projects.

Protecting Our HOMES from Plastic Pollution

The Great Lakes are the largest source of freshwater on the planet providing drinking water for 40 million people. They support rich freshwater ecosystems, vibrant coastal communities, and various economic opportunities. As the largest source of freshwater on the planet, the people of the Great Lakes have the massive responsibility to protect and care for our HOMES. With continued development, poor waste management, and controversial policies, trash, primarily plastics, have risen to the surface as one of the greatest environmental threats impacting the region with 22 million pounds of plastic entering the Great Lakes each year. The problem is ours to make, but also ours to solve. Together we travel from the creation of plastic to its entrance into the waste stream, the environment, and even us. In this session you will learn about the impact of plastics, solutions to the problem, education and outreach resources, and simple steps you can make to lessen your use of and exposure to plastic. Information that is critical to share with others, especially youth. We are the solution to plastic pollution and together we will make a big difference.
